Introduction

The National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU) is located at the northern tip of Taiwan. Her campus is close to the deep ocean and has an excellent geographical location for the development of marine-related research. NTOU has a history of over 70 years and is the highest institution of marine-related education and research in Taiwan. It is also an international top marine institution of higher learning with the most complete marine characteristics in the world.  

 

Given the rapid growth of the global population and the dwindling land resources, people have turned their attention to the ocean, from which asking for food, energy, and space. Therefore, the production and utilization of marine biological resources have become an important trend in the development of science and technology. However, the uncertainty of climate change affects the current status and future sustainable development characteristics of marine biological resources. How to use the existing basic knowledge of the marine environment and biological ecology, and apply it to the maintenance and conservation of the marine environment and marine organisms to achieve resource ecological sustainability is an urgent task at present.

The International Master Program in Marine Biotechnology and Environmental Ecology Sustainability integrates the faculty and teaching resources of the "College of Life Sciences " and the "College of Marine Science and Resource", and provides multiple options of English-language courses under the diverse research themes of each department, committed to the research of reasonable development and utilization of marine resources, as well as the use of biotechnology genetic breeding, increasing food production, improving food utilization, developing healthy food, developing natural medicines and other added value, while developing the prosperity, still do not forget the mission to ensure the endless ocean resources and sustainable environment and ecology.

        IMME is dedicated to applying biotechnology to marine biology, aquaculture, food science, etc., as well as the two major areas of environmental ecological monitoring and management and protection of marine resources. We look forward to cooperating with world-class universities in the future, introducing the latest research results and technologies, and promoting academic exchanges and cooperation, so that  IMME can maintain a leading position in the fields of biological sciences and marine environment and ecological sustainability to provide students with high-quality educational resources and academic environment, and cultivate students become leading professionals in the future; IMME also hopes to make a positive contribution to the school's international academic reputation, the development of marine industries in various countries, and marine-related research, and to set a model for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 14. Quality Education.
